Glossary

Key terms used across the BeamedUp platform.

TermDefinition
Academic LevelA grade or year level within a branch (e.g., Grade 10, Year 1)
Academic YearThe time period for a school year (e.g., 2025-2026). Classes and exams are organized by academic year.
AddonA premium feature module that can be added to any paid subscription tier (e.g., Proctoring Suite, Gamification)
AnnouncementA broadcast message sent to users in specific branches or roles
AssignmentThe link between an exam and a class - when you assign an exam, it becomes available to students in that class
Auto-gradingAutomatic scoring of objective questions (MCQ, True/False, Fill-in-Blanks) based on correct answers
BranchA physical campus or location within an organization. Each branch has its own users, classes, and settings.
Branch AdminA user role that manages a specific branch - its users, classes, and exams
Branch CodeA short unique identifier for a branch (e.g., SV-JNR), used in URLs and student IDs
ClassA group of students at a specific grade level and section (e.g., "Class 10-A") with assigned teachers and a timetable
Class TeacherThe primary teacher (homeroom teacher) responsible for a class
DashboardThe main landing page after login, showing role-specific stats and quick actions
DraftAn exam status indicating it is being prepared and is not yet visible to students
ExamAn assessment created by an instructor or admin, consisting of questions with configured scoring and time limits
Exam TypeThe category of exam: Quiz, Test, Mid-Term, Final, Assignment, Practice, or Board Exam
Fill-in-BlanksA question type where students complete missing words in a sentence
GamificationFeatures that motivate learning through achievements, points, leaderboards, and streaks
Grade LevelThe academic level of a class (e.g., Grade 1, Grade 12, Year 1)
GradingThe process of reviewing and scoring student submissions, either automatically or manually
GuardianA parent or family member with access to monitor their child's academic progress
HotspotA question type where students click on the correct area of an image
InstructorA teacher or trainer who creates exams, manages classes, and grades submissions
LearnerA student who takes exams and uses learning features
MatchingA question type where students match items from two columns
MatrixA question type with a grid of rows and columns for complex selections
MCQMultiple Choice Question - a question with several options where one is correct
Negative MarkingDeducting marks for incorrect answers on an exam
OrganizationYour institution as a whole. Each organization has its own subdomain and can contain multiple branches.
Organization AdminThe highest user role in the portal - manages the entire organization including branches, settings, and billing
PeriodA time slot in a class timetable (e.g., Period 1: 8:00-8:45)
Period TemplateA reusable schedule template defining period times and breaks
ProctoringMonitoring students during exams using camera, screen recording, and tab-switch detection
PublishedAn exam status indicating it is live and available for assigned students to take
Question BankA shared library of questions organized by subject, topic, and difficulty, reusable across exams
RosterThe list of students enrolled in a class
RubricGrading criteria for essay and subjective questions, describing what constitutes different score levels
SectionA subdivision within a grade level (e.g., Section A, Section B)
Setup TokenA secure link sent via email after organization approval, used to complete the initial setup
Study ToolsLearning features for students: flashcards, notes, and practice mode
SubjectAn academic discipline (e.g., Mathematics, Physics, English)
SubdomainYour organization's unique URL prefix (e.g., your-school in your-school.beamedup.in)
SubscriptionYour organization's paid plan tier (Free, Basic, Professional, or Enterprise)
TimetableThe weekly schedule of class periods with subject and teacher assignments
TopicA specific area within a subject (e.g., "Quadratic Equations" within Mathematics)
True/FalseA question type with two options - True or False
