Creating an Exam
Exams are the core assessment tool in BeamEdUp. The Organization Portal provides a step-by-step wizard to create exams, configure settings, add questions, and assign them to students. Every exam starts as a draft, giving you full control before publishing.
Creation Workflow

2
Click "Create Exam"
Click the Create Exam button in the top-right corner. This opens the exam creation wizard.

The exam is created in Draft status. You can add questions, configure scheduling, and set up proctoring before publishing.
Basic Information Fields
The first section of the exam wizard captures the exam's identity. These fields help organize exams and appear in listings, reports, and student-facing views.

Question Types
BeamEdUp supports several question types that can be enabled per exam in the configuration step. The available types are:
- MCQ — Multiple-choice with single correct answer
- Multiple Response — Multiple-choice with multiple correct answers
- True/False — Binary choice questions
- Short Answer / Essay — Free-text responses (manual grading)
- Fill in the Blank — Students complete missing text
- Matching — Pair items from two columns
Draft Status
Newly created exams are in draft status. While in draft, you can freely edit all settings, add or remove questions, and configure scheduling. Drafts are not visible to students until you publish them.
