Submitting & Reviewing

Submitting an exam is a deliberate two-step process to prevent accidental submissions. BeamEdUp shows a detailed review summary before you confirm, ensuring you are aware of any unanswered or flagged questions.

Submission Process

1

Click Submit Exam

On the last question, click the green "Submit Exam" button. Alternatively, you can click Submit from any question — the button appears in the navigation area on the final question.

2

Review the Summary

A confirmation modal appears showing your submission summary — total questions, answered, unanswered, and marked for review. Take a moment to verify these counts.

3

Handle Warnings

If you have unanswered questions, an orange warning with the count appears. You can click "Go Back" to return to the exam and answer them, or proceed with the submission.

4

Confirm Submission

Click "Confirm Submit" to finalize. The system sends all your answers to the server. A loading indicator shows while the submission is processing.

5

View Results

After successful submission, you are redirected to the result page. A green success notification confirms your exam was submitted. If the exam has auto-grading enabled, your score for objective questions is available immediately.

Submission Summary

The confirmation modal displays a summary panel with the following information:

FieldRequiredTypeDescription

Total Questions

Required

number

The total number of questions in the exam.

Answered

Required

number

Number of questions you have provided an answer for. Shown in green.

Unanswered

Required

number

Number of questions with no answer. Shown in red. A warning appears if this is greater than zero.

Marked for Review

Required

number

Number of questions you flagged for review. Shown in orange. These are included in the submission regardless of flag status.

Automatic Submission

There are two scenarios where the exam is submitted automatically without manual confirmation:

  • Time Expiry — When the countdown timer reaches zero, the system submits all current answers automatically. A "Time Up!" notification appears before submission occurs.
  • Proctoring Violation Threshold — If the exam has proctoring enabled with auto-submit on violation, exceeding the configured violation threshold triggers automatic submission. A red notification warns you 3 seconds before the auto-submit occurs.

Offline Submission

If you are offline when submitting, the submission is queued locally and processed when you reconnect:

  • Your answers and duration are added to the sync queue in IndexedDB
  • An orange "Saved Offline" notification confirms the exam will be submitted when connectivity returns
  • You are redirected to the exam details page while waiting for sync
  • The submission is automatically sent to the server when internet is restored
